Digital Files for Products

Digital Files for Products, previously called Product Files, is a configuration page in the admin area that allows a store owner to upload and configure digital files that a customer downloads after purchase. In short, mp3s, PDFs, and other digital files that a customer receives from a store are configured here.

This page discusses a configuration page from the Admin Area. This article discusses configuration and usage for selling digital products.

Configuration

From the Digital Files for Products table view, an administrator can view all the files uploaded in to the [Root Digital Directory], as configured in Digital File Preferences. To upload a new file, an administrator can use the Upload New File option from the menu bar to select a file or files to upload. This upload dialog also allows a selection of one of the subfolders within the Root Digital Directory, and it contains an option to overwrite files if they exist.

Actions Menu

From the actions menu of table view, an administrator can:

• Update the PDF Watermark Style that is associated with selected file(s)
• Move files to a folder
• Create and delete folders. Any number of subfolders can be created, but NeuCart does not recognize folders within those subfolders. In short, storage of digital files is only two levels deep: the root and subfolders within the root.

Form View

Within form view, the following actions and configurations are allowed:

• Rename the file
• Move the file to another folder
• Replace the file
• Configure the PDF Watermark Style and test the watermark output.

The "test watermark" option exists only if the file is a PDF; this option lets an administrator view the file after the watermark has been applied. NeuCart recommends that all PDFs are tested to ensure the the watermark behaves properly. Some PDF file types do not work well with the NeuCart watermarking features.

Configuration of other pages

Settings from other configuration pages affect the configuration within Digital Files for Products:

• The [Root Digital Directory] in Digital File Preferences must be configured to an existing, readable/writable directory. (This setting is pre-configured for hosted customers and is not visible for hosted configurations; this is part of the setup process performed by NeuCart Support.)
• PDF Watermark Styles must be configured so that this page can display the list of available styles.

Linking to a Product

If you are selling an mp3 called "My Great Song.mp3", what does a customer have to purchase to actually receive this download? The answer is simple: on the product that is being sold, an administrator would configure the [Downloadable Filename] field to select the "My Great Song.mp3" from the list.

Both Form View and Table View of this page show the product(s) and Product File Collections to which a file is linked.
